The suspension marks the second violation of MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for Profar. Under the league's current collective bargaining agreement, a second positive test for a banned substance triggers an automatic season-long ban. This significant disciplinary action will sideline the veteran hitter for the entirety of the upcoming season, dealing a major blow to the Atlanta Braves roster.
Profar, who has spent time with several organizations throughout his career, was expected to play a key role in the Braves' lineup this year. Per league rules, players serving a PED-related suspension are also ineligible for postseason play during the year of their suspension.
