The Seattle Mariners have acquired All-Star utility player Brendan Donovan from the St. Louis Cardinals in a multi-player trade, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. The deal is reportedly finalized and involves a three-team swap including the Tampa Bay Rays.
As part of the transaction, the Cardinals receive a significant haul of prospects. St. Louis will add right-handed pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje, center fielder Tai Peete, and outfielder Colton Ledbetter to their system. Additionally, the Cardinals will receive two competitive-balance Round B picks as part of the package for Donovan.
The Tampa Bay Rays are also involved in the deal, acquiring third baseman Ben Williamson. Donovan, known for his elite defensive versatility and high on-base percentage, provides the Mariners with a proven veteran presence in both the infield and outfield. The move addresses a key need for Seattle as they look to strengthen their lineup for the 2025 season.
