The Cincinnati Reds are promoting right-handed pitcher Julian Garcia to the major leagues, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The 31-year-old pitcher is expected to make his MLB debut upon joining the big-league roster.
Garcia was originally a 10th-round selection by the organization in the 2016 MLB Draft. His call-up comes on the heels of a standout performance at the Triple-A level this season, where he has maintained a 3.03 ERA. Garcia has been particularly effective at missing bats, recording a high-leverage 13.6 K/9 rate prior to his promotion.
At 31 years old, Garcia represents a veteran presence within the minor league system finally getting his first opportunity at the highest level after eight years in the professional ranks. The Reds have not yet officially announced a corresponding roster move to accommodate his arrival on the active roster.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
