Team USA will utilize the exact same starting lineup for their upcoming World Baseball Classic game as they did in their tournament opener against Brazil, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
Manager Joe Torre has opted for total consistency in both the batting order and defensive positions following the team's debut performance. The lineup is expected to be led by Jimmy Rollins, Brandon Phillips, and Ryan Braun at the top of the card. The heart of the order remains anchored by veterans Joe Mauer, David Wright, and Lance Berkman.
Defensively, the configuration remains unchanged with Giancarlo Stanton and Shane Victorino joining Braun in the outfield, while Eric Hosmer handles duties at first base. This decision confirms that the coaching staff is sticking with the veteran-heavy group that first took the field in Phoenix to begin the international competition.
By maintaining the same nine players, Team USA enters their next phase of pool play with the same roster structure established during the opening round. The team is looking to build momentum as they progress through the 2013 World Baseball Classic bracket.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
