Free agent forward Haywood Highsmith has agreed to a multiyear contract with the Phoenix Suns, according to his agent Jerry Dianis via ESPN. The deal secures a key defensive piece for the Suns as they continue to reshape their roster for the upcoming season.
Highsmith, 27, has spent the previous three seasons with the Miami Heat, where he developed into a reliable "3-and-D" specialist. During the 2023-24 campaign, Highsmith appeared in 66 games, averaging 6.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per contest. He shot a career-high 39.6% from beyond the arc, proving his value as a floor-spacer alongside elite scoring talent.
Standing 6-foot-5 with a significant wingspan, Highsmith earned a reputation in Miami for his ability to guard multiple positions. His playoff experience includes a trip to the NBA Finals in 2023, where he played a rotation role during the Heat's underdog run. The Phoenix Suns have been active in seeking versatile defenders to complement the high-scoring trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.
The specific financial terms of the multiyear agreement have not yet been disclosed. Highsmith’s addition provides the Suns with much-needed depth on the wing following a season where perimeter defense was a point of emphasis for the front office.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
