The Philadelphia 76ers have officially ruled out center Joel Embiid for tonight's Game 2 against the New York Knicks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The decision comes as Embiid continues to manage recovery from a left knee procedure performed earlier this season. During the 76ers' Game 1 loss on Saturday, Embiid appeared to aggravate the knee following a self-alley-oop dunk in the second quarter. Although he returned to finish the game, the team has opted to sideline the reigning MVP for the pivotal matchup at Madison Square Garden.
In the series opener, Embiid recorded 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in 37 minutes of action. His absence marks a significant turn for Philadelphia, as the team currently trails 0-1 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference first-round series. Embiid missed 29 games during the regular season after undergoing surgery to repair a lateral meniscus injury in his left knee in February, only returning to the lineup in early April.
The 76ers will now have to navigate Game 2 without their leading scorer as they look to avoid a 0-2 deficit before the series shifts back to Philadelphia. The team has not yet provided a specific timeline for his return to the court beyond tonight's contest.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
