The New York Knicks have traded out of the first round of the NBA Draft in a series of deals involving the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns, according to Shams Charania. The complex sequence of moves results in New York acquiring a total of five second-round picks and cash considerations.
Initially, the Knicks traded the No. 25 overall pick, Sergio De Larrea, to the Dallas Mavericks. In return, New York received the No. 30 overall pick, Koa Peat, and two second-round selections. The draft night shuffling continued immediately after that transaction was finalized.
New York then moved the newly acquired No. 30 pick, Koa Peat, to the Phoenix Suns. In exchange for the final pick of the first round, the Suns sent three second-round picks and cash to the Knicks. Per Charania, these moves effectively move the Knicks entirely out of the first round of the draft.
By the end of the activity, the Knicks successfully converted their original No. 25 selection into five future second-round assets and financial considerations. Meanwhile, the Mavericks and Suns both secured first-round talent through the acquisitions of De Larrea and Peat, respectively.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
