The Los Angeles Lakers have hired former University of Virginia head coach Tony Bennett as an NBA Draft advisor, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Bennett will serve in the role under Lakers president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka.
Bennett joins the Lakers organization following a storied collegiate coaching career, most notably leading the Virginia Cavaliers to an NCAA National Championship in 2019. Known for his defensive prowess and disciplined approach, Bennett retired from his position at Virginia in October 2024. His move to the Lakers marks his first official front-office role at the professional level.
The addition of Bennett is expected to provide the Lakers with a veteran collegiate perspective as they evaluate talent for upcoming draft classes. Working directly with Rob Pelinka, Bennett will leverage his extensive experience in recruiting and player development to assist the Lakers' scouting department.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
