The Golden State Warriors and head coach Steve Kerr have agreed to a two-year, $35 million contract extension, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The deal officially makes Kerr the highest-paid head coach in NBA history at $17.5 million per year.
The agreement ensures that Kerr will continue to lead the franchise through the 2025-26 season, aligning his tenure with the remaining two years on superstar Stephen Curry’s current contract. Kerr was previously entering the final months of his existing deal, which was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.
Since joining the Warriors in 2014, Kerr has guided the team to four NBA championships and six NBA Finals appearances, establishing one of the greatest dynasties in professional sports. His new salary surpasses the annual value of recent coaching contracts signed by Erik Spoelstra and Monty Williams, setting a new financial benchmark for the league's coaching ranks.
In addition to his historic success in the NBA, Kerr is also the current head coach for the USA Basketball Men’s National Team. This extension reaffirms the Warriors' commitment to maintaining their veteran leadership core as they look to extend their championship window.
