The Oklahoma City Thunder are signing forward Payton Sandfort to a two-way NBA contract, according to agents Ross Aroyo and Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports via ESPN. Sandfort earns the promotion to the standard roster after beginning his professional career with the team’s G League affiliate, the OKC Blue.
A 6-foot-7 forward out of the University of Iowa, Payton Sandfort joined the Thunder organization as an undrafted free agent last June. During his final collegiate season, he was recognized as one of the premier shooters in the Big Ten, averaging 16.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. His transition to a two-way deal allows him to split time between the NBA and the G League while providing the Oklahoma City Thunder with additional floor-spacing depth.
Under the terms of the two-way agreement, Payton Sandfort will be eligible to be active for up to 50 NBA games this season. This move highlights the Thunder's continued focus on internal development through the OKC Blue, a system that has successfully produced several rotation players for the franchise in recent years.
