The 2026 season will break tradition with a rare Wednesday night season opener on September 9. The defending champion Seattle Seahawks are set to host the New England Patriots at Lumen Field in a high-stakes rematch of Super Bowl LX. This marks the first time since 2012 that the league has scheduled a Wednesday opener, signaling a significant shift in the NFL's broadcast calendar.
Expanding its global footprint, the league also announced a record nine international games across four continents. New markets for the 2026 season include Melbourne, Australia; Paris, France; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These cities join established international hosts in London and Madrid. Additionally, the schedule introduces the first-ever "Thanksgiving Eve" matchup, featuring the Green Bay Packers visiting the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday, November 25.
Other notable highlights include 13 Super Bowl rematches and 12 games featuring rematches from the 2025 postseason. The New York Giants will also begin a new era under head coach John Harbaugh, opening their campaign against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football on September 13.
