The Kansas City Chiefs have selected LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier with the No. 249 overall pick in the NFL Draft, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Nussmeier joins the defending champions following a collegiate career at LSU where he was noted for his aggressive passing style. His draft stock was reportedly impacted by a medical discovery during the NFL Scouting Combine. Per Pelissero, Nussmeier was diagnosed with a cyst on his spine, a condition that was identified as the root cause of the oblique pain that limited him during his final season with the Tigers.
Despite the medical red flag, the Chiefs are adding a developmental prospect with significant upside to their quarterback room. Pelissero noted that scouts admire Nussmeier's demeanor, stating he possesses a "bantam rooster gunslinger confidence."
