The San Francisco 49ers have officially hired Matt Eberflus to serve as the team’s assistant head coach of defense, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Eberflus arrives in San Francisco with an extensive coaching resume, most recently serving as the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. Prior to his stint in Dallas, he served as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. His addition to the staff is intended to fill the vital role recently vacated by Gus Bradley, who left the organization to join the Tennessee Titans.
The hiring of Eberflus provides head coach Kyle Shanahan with another experienced leader on the defensive side of the ball. Known for his disciplined defensive schemes and veteran leadership, Eberflus is expected to work closely with the existing defensive staff to maintain a unit that has consistently ranked among the league's elite. The 49ers moved quickly to secure the veteran coach to ensure continuity on the defensive staff following the departure of Bradley.
