The San Francisco 49ers have officially selected TCU linebacker Dee Winters with the No. 152 overall pick in the fifth round of the NFL Draft, per @RapSheet.
Winters becomes the latest addition to the San Francisco defensive unit after a standout collegiate career with the Horned Frogs. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 227 pounds, the linebacker earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors in 2022. He was a cornerstone of the TCU defense that helped lead the program to a College Football Playoff National Championship appearance last season.
During his senior campaign, Dee Winters recorded 79 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. His standout performance in the CFP Semifinal against Michigan, where he logged seven tackles and a crucial pick-six, solidified his status as a high-upside defensive prospect. The 49ers are expected to utilize his elite speed and sideline-to-sideline range both on special teams and as a depth piece in their linebacker rotation.
The selection of Winters follows the 49ers' established strategy of targeting high-motor defensive players in the middle rounds of the draft. He joins a linebacker room currently led by All-Pro Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw as the team continues to bolster its roster for the upcoming season.
