The San Francisco 49ers have officially signed safety Ashtyn Davis to a one-year contract, according to a report from @AdamSchefter. To facilitate the signing and maintain the roster limit, the team has waived running back Jermar Jefferson.
Ashtyn Davis joins the 49ers following a four-year stint with the New York Jets, who originally selected him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. A product of the University of California, Berkeley, Davis has established himself as a versatile defensive back and a core special teams contributor during his professional career. During the 2023 season, he appeared in 17 games, recording 37 tackles, three interceptions, and eight pass deflections. His arrival in San Francisco provides immediate veteran depth to a secondary looking to remain among the league's elite units.
In a corresponding roster move, the organization parted ways with Jermar Jefferson. Jefferson, a former seventh-round pick by the Detroit Lions, was competing for a depth role in a crowded San Francisco backfield. He will now head to the waiver wire where other teams will have the opportunity to claim him.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
