The San Francisco 49ers have reached an agreement on a one-year contract with former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Cam Sample, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The move provides the 49ers with an experienced rotational piece for their defensive line as they look to bolster their front four. Cam Sample, 25, was originally selected by the Bengals in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Tulane. During his time in Cincinnati, he appeared in 47 regular-season games, recording 68 tackles, five sacks, and 20 quarterback hits.

Sample is looking to bounce back after a challenging 2024 season. He missed the entirety of the last campaign after suffering a torn Achilles during training camp in August. Prior to the injury, Sample had been a consistent contributor to the Bengals' defensive rotation, appearing in at least 14 games in each of his first three professional seasons.

The addition of Cam Sample adds veteran depth to a San Francisco defensive line led by Nick Bosa. The 49ers have frequently prioritized defensive line rotations, and Sample’s experience in high-leverage games—including the Bengals' Super Bowl LVI run—makes him a valuable low-risk addition to the roster. Per Tom Pelissero, the deal is for a single season.
