The San Francisco 49ers are adding depth to their offensive unit, signing former Penn State tight end Khalil Dinkins to a new contract, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
The deal for Dinkins reportedly includes $275,000 in guaranteed money, per Pelissero. The move comes as the 49ers look to evaluate talent and solidify the roster depth behind All-Pro George Kittle. Dinkins enters the NFL after a productive collegiate stint at Penn State, where he appeared in 28 games and recorded five career touchdowns for the Nittany Lions.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, Dinkins was a versatile piece of the Penn State offense, often utilized in red-zone packages and as a physical blocker. He now joins a San Francisco squad known for its creative and heavy use of tight ends under head coach Kyle Shanahan. The addition of Dinkins provides the team with another young prospect to compete for a roster spot during the upcoming offseason program and training camp.
