Pittsburgh Steelers President Art Rooney II confirmed Wednesday that the organization is still awaiting a final decision from quarterback Aaron Rodgers regarding his status for the 2026 NFL season. Speaking on NFL Network’s "The Insiders," Rooney addressed the ongoing uncertainty as the franchise prepares to host the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh this week.
According to Tom Pelissero, Rooney acknowledged that while he initially expected a resolution prior to the draft, the team remains in active communication with the 42-year-old signal-caller. Rooney expressed a level of fatigue with the prolonged process but indicated that the team expects definitive clarity before the start of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on May 18. Rodgers, who led Pittsburgh to a postseason appearance in 2025, is currently weighing retirement, a return to the Steelers, or potentially joining another club.
The Steelers are currently moving forward with Mason Rudolph and 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard on the roster while Rodgers weighs his future. Rooney emphasized that the lines of communication remain open, though the team’s focus is shifting toward the upcoming draft festivities in their home city.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
