San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade from the organization, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The formal request follows months of stalled negotiations regarding a long-term contract extension for the All-Pro playmaker.
Per @RapSheet, Aiyuk informed the team of his desire to be moved as the two sides remain far apart on financial terms. Aiyuk is coming off a career-best 2023 season in which he earned Second-team All-Pro honors, tallying 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He was a key factor in the 49ers' postseason success, appearing in every game through the team's Super Bowl LVIII appearance in February 2024.
The trade request follows a period of heightened tension, including public comments made by Aiyuk regarding his status with the team and social media interactions with Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. While Aiyuk is currently slated to play the upcoming season on his fifth-year option, his request puts the San Francisco front office in a difficult position with training camp scheduled to begin later this month.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
