The Pittsburgh Steelers and veteran defensive tackle Cameron Heyward have reached an agreement on a new contract extension, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Heyward, a longtime captain and the heart of the Pittsburgh defense, has spent his entire 13-year career with the franchise. Since being selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Ohio State product has established himself as one of the most consistent interior defenders in the league. The deal comes as Heyward was entering the final year of his previous contract and had expressed a desire to finish his career in Pittsburgh.
A six-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-team All-Pro, Heyward has recorded 80.5 career sacks and 647 total tackles during his tenure in the Steel City. Beyond his on-field performance, he was recently honored as the 2023 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year for his extensive community service and leadership. This new agreement ensures that the veteran leader remains the cornerstone of the defensive front for head coach Mike Tomlin.
Specific financial terms of the extension have not yet been disclosed. The move solidifies the Steelers' defensive line as they prepare for the upcoming season in a highly competitive AFC North.
