The Arizona Cardinals are moving toward hiring Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur as the franchise's next head coach, according to reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The two parties are currently working to finalize a five-year contract to bring the veteran offensive specialist to Arizona.
Mike LaFleur has spent the recent season directing the Rams offense under head coach Sean McVay, helping the unit remain one of the most creative in the NFL. Before his tenure in Los Angeles, LaFleur served as the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets for two seasons and was a key member of the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff under Kyle Shanahan. His deep roots in the Shanahan/McVay coaching tree have made him a highly sought-after candidate during this coaching cycle.
The hiring of LaFleur would fill the vacancy in Arizona as the organization seeks a fresh start and a new identity. The Cardinals front office, led by general manager Monti Ossenfort, appears focused on pairing franchise quarterback Kyler Murray with a proven offensive mind. A five-year deal would provide LaFleur with the long-term stability needed to implement his system and rebuild the roster following a challenging period for the franchise.
While the deal has not been officially signed, sources indicate that negotiations are in the final stages and an official announcement is expected once the paperwork is completed.
