The Kansas City Chiefs are signing veteran running back Samaje Perine, according to @AdamSchefter of ESPN. Perine joins the Chiefs after being released by the Denver Broncos earlier this week during final roster cuts.
Perine, 28, appeared in 17 games for the Broncos last season, recording 238 rushing yards and a career-high 455 receiving yards on 50 catches. A veteran of seven NFL seasons, he has also spent time with the Washington Redskins, Cincinnati Bengals, and Miami Dolphins. He is widely recognized for his pass-catching ability and his proficiency in pass protection in the backfield.
The move comes as Kansas City looks to solidify its depth chart ahead of the regular season opener. Perine joins a Chiefs running back room that currently features Isiah Pacheco, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and rookie Carson Steele. The contract terms have not yet been disclosed, but the veteran is expected to be integrated into the offense immediately.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
