The Dallas Cowboys have officially placed a second-round restricted free agent tender on kicker Brandon Aubrey, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The tender is valued at $5.76 million for the upcoming season.
Under the terms of the second-round tender, Aubrey is now permitted to negotiate and sign an offer sheet with other NFL teams. However, the Cowboys maintain the right to match any contract offer he receives from a rival franchise. If Aubrey signs an offer sheet that the Cowboys decline to match, Dallas would receive a second-round draft pick as compensation from the signing team.
Aubrey is coming off a historic rookie campaign in which he earned First-team All-Pro honors. He set an NFL record for the most consecutive field goals made to start a career, successfully converting his first 35 attempts. By utilizing the second-round tender, the Cowboys have signaled a high valuation for the kicker, making it significantly more expensive for other teams to attempt to lure him away from Dallas.
