The Miami Dolphins have officially re-signed exclusive rights free-agent cornerback Ethan Bonner to a one-year contract, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The deal was confirmed by Bonner’s agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Shawn O’Dare, on Friday.
Ethan Bonner returns to Miami after appearing in two regular-season games and the team's Wild Card playoff matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs last season. Initially signed as an undrafted college free agent out of Stanford, the cornerback has impressed the coaching staff with his speed and development in the secondary. During his rookie campaign, Bonner recorded one tackle and contributed primarily on special teams units.
Under the NFL's exclusive rights free agent (ERFA) rules, a player with fewer than three accrued seasons whose contract has expired can only negotiate with their former team if a qualifying offer is made. By signing the tender, Bonner secures his place on the 90-man roster as the Dolphins prepare for their upcoming offseason programs and training camp. His retention provides necessary depth to a Miami secondary that remains a focal point of the team's defensive strategy.
