The Philadelphia Eagles have officially placed defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka on the reserve/retired list on Tuesday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The transaction marks an unexpected turn for the veteran pass rusher who had recently joined the Eagles organization.
Tryon-Shoyinka entered the league as a highly-touted prospect out of the University of Washington. He was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the No. 32 overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. During his three-year tenure in Tampa Bay, the 25-year-old defensive end appeared in 51 games and made 34 starts. He compiled a career total of 114 tackles, 13 sacks, and one forced fumble during his time with the Buccaneers.
By being placed on the reserve/retired list, the Eagles will retain Tryon-Shoyinka's contractual rights should he decide to return to professional football in the future. However, he will not count toward the team’s active roster. The move leaves Philadelphia looking to bolster their depth at the edge rusher position as they finalize their roster for the upcoming campaign.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
