Eight NFL franchises officially began their Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Monday, marking a significant progression in the league's offseason calendar. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, these sessions represent the start of Phase 3 of the offseason program for nearly a quarter of the league.
The teams taking the field today include the New England Patriots, New York Jets, Houston Texans, Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, and San Francisco 49ers. These clubs join a growing list of teams across the NFL that have already initiated their spring practice schedules over the past week.
OTAs allow teams to conduct on-field drills such as 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods, though league rules strictly prohibit live contact. These voluntary sessions provide coaching staffs with the first real opportunity to evaluate veteran players alongside newly drafted rookies in a team setting. While attendance is not mandatory for players, these practices are considered vital for installing schemes and building chemistry ahead of mandatory minicamps in June.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
