Engstrand joins the Falcons after a highly successful tenure with the Detroit Lions, where he most recently served as their passing game coordinator. During his time in Detroit, he was a key architect of an offensive unit that ranked among the league's best, helping lead the team to an NFC Championship Game appearance last season. He originally joined the Lions staff in 2020 and held multiple roles, including tight ends coach and offensive assistant, working closely under offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
In Atlanta, Engstrand will play a pivotal role in the new-look coaching staff led by head coach Raheem Morris. He is expected to work directly under new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, who arrived from the Los Angeles Rams earlier this offseason. The hiring is a clear signal that the Falcons are prioritizing a modernized aerial attack to maximize the potential of their high-drafted skill players, including Drake London and Kyle Pitts.
