Quarterback Geno Smith is returning to the New York Jets following a trade involving a late-round pick swap, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
The deal is reportedly a 6th and 7th round pick swap that sends Smith back to the franchise where he began his professional career. Unlike his initial stint with the team, Smith returns to New York with the expectation that he will serve as the team's QB1 for the upcoming season.
Smith was originally drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. After a career resurgence in recent years that included Pro Bowl honors, he now heads back to the AFC East to lead the New York offense. The move solidifies the veteran's role as a starter after proving his efficiency as a high-level signal-caller in the league.
