The New York Giants have identified key candidates for their vacant offensive coordinator position, scheduling interviews with two top assistants from the Indianapolis Colts, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Per Rapoport, Colts passing game coordinator Alex Tanney is interviewing for the role today. Tanney, a former NFL quarterback, has quickly risen through the coaching ranks and previously spent time on the coaching staff of the Philadelphia Eagles before joining Indianapolis.
The search will continue through the weekend as Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter is slated to interview with the Giants on Sunday. Cooter is a veteran play-caller with extensive experience across the league, most notably serving as the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions from 2015 to 2018. He has been instrumental in the development of the Colts offense under head coach Shane Steichen.
The Giants are looking to reshape their offensive leadership following recent staff departures. These interviews indicate that head coach Brian Daboll is looking toward the Colts' successful offensive system for potential leadership. Both candidates bring a wealth of experience in passing game concepts and quarterback development to a New York team looking for more consistency on that side of the ball.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
