The New York Jets have agreed to trade defensive end Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat, according to ESPN sources.
The deal, first reported by Adam Schefter, involves a significant swap of young defensive talent between the two AFC franchises. Johnson, who was a first-round selection by the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft, has established himself as a productive edge rusher during his tenure in New York. In return, the Jets receive Sweat, a massive interior lineman who was selected by the Titans in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of the University of Texas.
Per the report, the trade cannot be officially processed until the start of the new league year in March. Until that time, the agreement remains unofficial under NFL transaction guidelines. Both players are expected to remain with their current organizations until the league's calendar officially flips and the trade window opens for business.
The move allows the Titans to bolster their pass-rushing unit with an athletic edge defender, while the Jets add a powerful presence to anchor the middle of their defensive front. No additional draft picks have been reported as part of the player-for-player swap at this time.
