The New York Jets and Tennessee Titans have agreed to a rare player-for-player trade involving two young defensive stars. Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Jets are sending Pro Bowl edge rusher Jermaine Johnson to the Titans in exchange for defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat.
The trade marks a significant move for both franchises, swapping high-upside players at different stages of their rookie contracts. Jermaine Johnson, 25, was a first-round selection by the Jets in 2022 and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2023 after a breakout campaign. He has been a cornerstone of the Jets' defensive line rotation since entering the league.
In return, the Jets acquire T’Vondre Sweat, the massive defensive tackle selected by the Titans in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Sweat, known for his elite run-stuffing ability and immense size, was the Outland Trophy winner at the University of Texas before being drafted by Tennessee this past spring.
This straight-up swap is an unusual occurrence in the modern NFL, where draft picks are typically the primary currency in major trades. Both teams appear to be addressing specific positional needs by exchanging "ascending players" early in their professional careers. The deal remains pending physicals for both athletes.
