The Los Angeles Chargers and star quarterback Justin Herbert have reached an agreement on a massive five-year, $262.5 million contract extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The deal includes $133.7 million in fully guaranteed money and a total of $218.7 million in guarantees, solidifying Herbert as the long-term face of the Chargers franchise. The extension, which averages $52.5 million per year, places the former Oregon standout among the highest-paid players in NFL history.
Herbert was widely considered the "next in line" for a market-setting deal following several other high-profile quarterback extensions across the league. Since being drafted sixth overall in 2020, Herbert has established multiple league records for passing yards and completions through the first three seasons of a career. This agreement ensures that the cornerstone signal-caller will remain in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future.
