The New York Knicks have reached an agreement with veteran center Andre Drummond on a one-year contract, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. The deal, reportedly worth $3.9 million, brings the 14-year veteran to New York to serve as the primary backup to Karl-Anthony Towns.
The move comes as a direct response to the departure of Mitchell Robinson, who recently signed a three-year, $47.4 million deal with the Boston Celtics in free agency. Drummond fills a critical gap in the Knicks frontcourt following the loss of both Robinson and reserve big man Ariel Hukporti, who joined the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this week.
Drummond, a two-time All-Star and four-time rebounding champion, averaged 6.4 points and 8.4 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per game for the 76ers last season. His addition allows the defending champion Knicks to maintain their interior presence while remaining below the NBA's second apron, a key financial priority for the franchise this offseason.
