The Detroit Lions are signing center Cade Mays to the roster, according to a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The move adds significant depth and versatility to the Lions' offensive line unit.
Mays, a former sixth-round draft pick out of the University of Tennessee, joins Detroit after spending the first portion of his career with the Carolina Panthers. Known for his ability to play multiple positions across the interior of the line, Mays appeared in 27 games for the Panthers over the 2022 and 2023 seasons, including several starts at both guard and center.
The addition of Mays provides the Lions with an experienced backup option as they look to maintain one of the NFL's top-performing offensive fronts. His familiarity with various blocking schemes and positional flexibility makes him a valuable asset for a Detroit team focused on a deep postseason run. The team has not yet confirmed which player will be moved to make room for Mays on the active roster.
