The Detroit Lions are signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Christian Izien to a one-year contract, according to Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Izien joins the Lions after a productive rookie campaign in Tampa Bay. Originally an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers, the young defensive back made an immediate impact for the Buccaneers in 2023, recording two interceptions in his first two NFL games. He finished his debut season appearing in all 17 regular-season contests, tallying 65 total tackles and proving to be a versatile asset in the secondary.
The addition of Izien provides the Detroit Lions with significant depth and flexibility in their defensive backfield as they continue to fortify their roster for a deep postseason run. Izien is expected to compete for snaps in the nickel and safety rotations. Financial terms of the one-year agreement have not been made public at this time.
