The NFL has officially informed clubs of the franchise and transition tag designations for the 2025 league year, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. These figures represent the guaranteed one-year contracts teams must offer to impending free agents to prevent them from hitting the open market.

The quarterback position leads all categories with a franchise tag value of $38,301,000 and a transition tag value of $34,443,000. Other high-value positions include wide receivers at $24,115,000, linebackers at $24,007,000, and offensive linemen at $23,312,000. Defensive ends carry a franchise tag price of $22,933,000, while cornerbacks are set at $21,570,000 and defensive tackles at $21,124,000.

On the lower end of the financial spectrum, the franchise tag for running backs is established at $13,444,000, with tight ends coming in at $14,242,000. Safeties are valued at $18,970,000, and specialists (kickers and punters) are set at $6,375,000. Transition tags, which allow teams the right of first refusal but offer no draft pick compensation if the player signs elsewhere, are lower than the franchise counterparts across the board.

The window for teams to apply these tags is currently open and will remain so until the deadline on March 11 at 4:00 p.m. ET. These specific numbers are calculated based on the top salaries at each respective position and are tied to the 2025 salary cap, which was recently confirmed at a record $272.5 million per club.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
