The New England Patriots are reportedly closing in on a deal with veteran edge rusher Dre'Mont Jones, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Jones, 27, spent the 2023 season with the Seattle Seahawks after signing a three-year deal with the club last March. During his lone season in Seattle, he started all 17 games, tallying 4.5 sacks and 49 total tackles. Prior to his time in the Pacific Northwest, he played four seasons with the Denver Broncos, who selected the Ohio State product in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Throughout his five-year professional career, Jones has appeared in 67 games, recording 153 tackles and 26.5 sacks.
The veteran defender is expected to join a Patriots defensive unit that is undergoing a transition under new head coach Jerod Mayo. New England has been active in looking to add experience and depth to its front seven this offseason. While the deal with Jones is not yet official, sources indicate that both sides are nearing an agreement to bring him to Foxborough. No financial terms or specific contract length have been confirmed by the team at this time.
