The New England Patriots have officially released running back Antonio Gibson, per @AdamSchefter.
The move comes as the Patriots continue to adjust their roster during the offseason. Gibson joined the organization after a four-year stint with the Washington Commanders, where he established himself as a versatile offensive threat. Since entering the league as a third-round pick in 2020, Gibson has recorded 2,632 rushing yards and 1,283 receiving yards, accounting for 29 total touchdowns.
In New England, Gibson was positioned to provide depth and a pass-catching element to a backfield led by Rhamondre Stevenson. With his release, the Patriots now have an open spot on their active roster. The team has not yet announced a corresponding transaction or provided further details regarding the decision to part ways with the veteran back.
Gibson becomes a free agent immediately and is eligible to sign with any team. This transaction follows a series of roster evaluations by the New England front office as they prepare for the 2026 campaign.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
