The Los Angeles Rams have acquired cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a first-round draft pick, according to @AdamSchefter of ESPN.
This aggressive move continues a long-standing trend for the Rams' front office. The organization has famously traded away first-round capital in the past to secure cornerstone players, most notably in deals that brought quarterback Matthew Stafford and cornerback Jalen Ramsey to Los Angeles. By adding McDuffie, the Rams secure a premier young talent for their secondary as they look to remain contenders in the NFC.
Despite sending a first-rounder to Kansas City in this deal, the Rams are not completely out of the opening round of the upcoming NFL Draft. Los Angeles still owns the No. 13 overall pick, a selection they acquired last year through a trade with the Atlanta Falcons. This flexibility allowed the Rams to move a different first-round asset to facilitate the deal for the All-Pro caliber cornerback.
