The Baltimore Ravens have officially requested to interview Jim Leonhard for their vacant defensive coordinator position, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Leonhard currently serves as the defensive passing game coordinator and assistant head coach for the Denver Broncos. This potential hire would represent a homecoming for Leonhard, who spent the 2008 season playing safety in Baltimore during one of the franchise's most successful defensive eras.
The Ravens are looking to fill the void left by Mike Macdonald, who recently departed the organization to become the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. Leonhard has become a prominent name in this year's coaching cycle; in addition to the interest from Baltimore, he has already completed an interview for the Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator opening.
Before joining the NFL coaching ranks with Denver, Leonhard built a stellar reputation as the defensive coordinator for the Wisconsin Badgers, where he also briefly served as interim head coach. His deep understanding of defensive schemes and his previous ties to the Ravens organization make him a significant candidate for the vacancy.
