NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the Rooney Rule will remain in place, despite recent political maneuvering surrounding the policy. The commissioner reaffirmed the league's commitment to the diversity initiative during recent remarks, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Rooney Rule has served as a cornerstone of the NFL's hiring process for over two decades. "The Rooney rule has been around a long time, we’ve adapted, we’ve changed it, and we’ll continue to do that," Goodell stated, per @RapSheet. The rule currently requires teams to interview at least two external minority candidates for head coaching vacancies and at least one minority candidate for coordinator positions.

Goodell's comments come as various diversity programs across professional sports and corporate sectors have faced increased legal and political challenges. Despite these external pressures, the league intends to maintain and evolve the rule as needed to meet its objectives. The NFL has frequently updated the policy since its inception in 2003 to expand its scope to include general manager and executive roles.
