The New Orleans Saints have officially declined the fifth-year option for defensive end Tyree Wilson, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet).
The decision comes just days after the Saints acquired Wilson from the Las Vegas Raiders in a trade during the 2026 NFL Draft. By declining the option for the 2027 season, New Orleans has effectively turned the upcoming 2026 campaign into a "one-year trial" for the former top-10 pick. Wilson, who was selected No. 7 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, is now set to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2026 season.
The Saints sent a fifth-round pick (No. 150 overall) to the Raiders on Saturday in exchange for Wilson and a 2026 seventh-round selection. Wilson has recorded 12 career sacks and 16 tackles for loss over 50 games but has yet to live up to his high draft pedigree. He joins a Saints edge-rushing rotation that includes Chase Young and Carl Granderson under defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.
In a separate move on Monday, Rapoport also reported that the Dallas Cowboys have agreed to terms with veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a one-year contract. Additionally, the Minnesota Vikings officially exercised the fifth-year option for wide receiver Jordan Addison on Monday, keeping him under contract through 2027.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
