The Dallas Cowboys have reached an agreement with quarterback Sam Howell on a one-year contract, according to a source.
Howell joins the Cowboys after previous stints with the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Commanders. The addition provides Dallas with an experienced depth option behind franchise starter Dak Prescott. Howell has made 18 career starts in the NFL, including 17 starts during the 2023 season where he recorded 3,946 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. He led the league in total completions that year with 388.
Originally a fifth-round selection out of the University of North Carolina, Howell earned his first career NFL start in the final week of the 2022 season before serving as the primary starter for Washington the following year. During his tenure as a starter, he has also demonstrated mobility in the pocket, contributing five career touchdowns on the ground. The specific financial terms of the one-year agreement have not yet been disclosed by the team.
