The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms to re-sign defensive lineman Esezi Otomewo to a one-year contract, per his agents at LIFT Sports Management.

Otomewo spent the entirety of the 2023 season with the Steelers organization after being waived by the Minnesota Vikings during final roster cuts last August. Although he spent the season on the practice squad and did not see regular-season game action, the team clearly values his development, having previously signed him to a reserve/future contract in January before finalizing this new one-year agreement.

Originally a fifth-round selection (No. 165 overall) out of the University of Minnesota in the 2022 NFL Draft, Otomewo appeared in five games for the Vikings during his rookie season, recording five total tackles and one quarterback hit. Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 282 pounds, he offers the physical prototype the Steelers often look for in their defensive ends within a 3-4 scheme.

The move provides additional depth to a Steelers defensive line room that features veterans like Cameron Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi. By retaining Otomewo, Pittsburgh keeps a young, developmental player in the building as they prepare for the upcoming draft and offseason program. The 25-year-old will look to compete for a spot on the active roster during training camp later this summer.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
