Mixon was originally acquired by Houston via trade from the Cincinnati Bengals in March. Shortly after the trade, he signed a multi-year contract extension intended to keep him in the Texans backfield through the 2026 season. His release marks a sudden shift in the team's offensive depth chart.
During the 2023 season with the Bengals, Mixon rushed for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns, marking his fourth career 1,000-yard season. He also contributed significantly in the passing game, recording 52 receptions. Over his seven-year career, the former Pro Bowler has established himself as one of the most productive dual-threat backs in the league.
