The Minnesota Vikings have reached an agreement to sign free-agent quarterback Kyler Murray to a one-year contract, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The move comes less than 24 hours after Murray was officially released by the Arizona Cardinals.
Per @RapSheet, the deal includes a no-tag clause, allowing the 28-year-old quarterback to return to free agency in 2027. Under the financial terms of the agreement, the Vikings will pay Murray the league minimum of $1.3 million for the 2026 season. The Cardinals are responsible for the remaining $35.5 million of his $36.8 million in guaranteed salary, which was part of his previous contract extension in Arizona.
The former No. 1 overall pick and two-time Pro Bowler joins a Minnesota roster currently led by 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy. Murray is expected to compete for the starting role in head coach Kevin O’Connell’s offense as he seeks to reset his market following an injury-hampered 2025 season. During his seven-year tenure with the Cardinals, Murray was named the 2019 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and led the franchise to a playoff appearance in 2021.
