The Buffalo Bills have officially named Jim Leonhard as the team's new defensive coordinator, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Leonhard, a former safety who played for the Bills during two separate stints in the mid-2000s and 2013, returns to Buffalo after serving as the defensive passing game coordinator for the Denver Broncos. The hire marks a major addition to the staff of new head coach Joe Brady, who was recently promoted to the lead role. Leonhard fills the vacancy left by Bobby Babich, who departed to join the Green Bay Packers earlier this month.
The news comes as part of a total coordinator overhaul for the Bills. Alongside Leonhard, the team has officially confirmed the appointments of Pete Carmichael as offensive coordinator and Jeff Rodgers as special teams coordinator, per @RapSheet. Leonhard was a highly coveted assistant this cycle, drawing interest from several teams before ultimately choosing to return to the organization where he began his NFL playing career.
