The Las Vegas Raiders have traded quarterback Geno Smith to the New York Jets, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The move marks a return to New York for the veteran signal-caller, who was originally drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
In exchange for Smith, the Raiders will receive a 2026 sixth-round draft pick. To facilitate the transaction, Las Vegas is also sending a seventh-round pick to New York and has agreed to pay $16.2 million of Smith's salary for the upcoming season. This financial arrangement allowed the Raiders to secure draft capital rather than releasing the quarterback outright.
Smith spent one season in Las Vegas, where he struggled during a difficult 2025 campaign that saw the team finish 3-14. The trade effectively clears the way for the Raiders to reset at the position, as the franchise currently holds the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. For the Jets, the acquisition provides a veteran presence with deep familiarity with the organization as they look to bolster their quarterback room.
