The Detroit Lions have found their successor to David Montgomery, agreeing to terms with former Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco on Tuesday, per @RapSheet.
The move comes just over a week after the Lions traded Montgomery to the Houston Texans in exchange for offensive lineman Juice Scruggs and draft capital. Pacheco, a two-time Super Bowl champion, is expected to serve as the primary complement to star starter Jahmyr Gibbs in the Detroit backfield for the 2026 season.
Pacheco spent four seasons in Kansas City, where he became a centerpiece of their championship runs with his aggressive, high-energy running style. While his production dipped to 462 rushing yards last season while dealing with injuries, the 26-year-old remains a high-upside addition for a Lions offense looking to maintain its physical identity. The agreement occurs during the NFL's legal tampering period, with the deal expected to become official when the new league year begins Wednesday.
