The Houston Texans are signing former Indianapolis Colts offensive tackle Braden Smith to a two-year contract, his agent Michael Perrett told The Insiders on Tuesday. The agreement is reportedly worth up to $25 million and includes $13.5 million in fully guaranteed compensation for the veteran lineman.
Smith makes the move to a division rival after spending the first six seasons of his professional career in Indianapolis. Originally a second-round selection out of Auburn in the 2018 NFL Draft, Smith has been a mainstay on the right side of the offensive line, appearing in 83 games and making 80 starts for the Colts. His addition provides a significant veteran presence for the Texans as they look to solidify the protection around franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud.
The move marks a key acquisition for Houston in free agency, addressing a premium position with a proven starter from within the AFC South. Smith is expected to join a Texans offensive front that already features Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil, giving the team an experienced pair of bookends to lead the unit into the upcoming season.
